The Bare Necessities
OR
You are SO stoned if you think I'm doing all that work for a suit I'm gonna wear once...

From the Skin Out was written to be a guideline for people interested in a high degree of historical accuracy in their clothing from the early 1400's period. Recognizing that there are people involved in Balfar and Luna's Royal Household for whom this is not their primary period interest, and who thus might not really *want* to go the whole route into period underpinnings and such, herein is contained a guideline to shortcuts and cheats if you want to do 1400's 'on the fly' as it were.

Bare Minimum

OK, that's REALLY bare. I'd recommend adding at least a shirt/chemise to the outfit, and a purse, at least for the guys.

Fabric choices are as you will, what you like and what you can afford. I'd still recommend natural fibers, as they are just nicer, in my opinion.

Cheats

For the Men:

Hose: Get some tights. Real tights, not women's hose. They'll run you about $20 at a dancers supply store. If you don't have a dancers supply store near you, contact me and I'll see what I can do. For slightly better hose, Thorny Rose sells knit cotton tights.

Shoes: Chinese slippers, or the faux leather bedroom slippers. Examples are shown here. The lower pair is what you're looking for.

For the Women:

Hose: Knee high stockings will do nicely. Nobody is supposed to see those parts of you anyway...

Shoes: Plain black flat shoes. Mary Janes... If there are any questions, please feel free to contact me with them, and I will do my best to answer them...
